The setting up and development of the community is being guided by the following principles, agreed by everyone involved:

This will be a community that:

• Promotes sustainable lifestyles by the way its members live, educate and campaign
• Is connected to the wider community in Exeter, not isolated from it
• Is financially self-sufficient with opportunities for sustainable income-generating activities
• Is totally self-sufficient in energy by using a variety of renewable energy options
• Shares some resources, experiences, events and communal spaces
• Provides a mix of private living accommodation
• Has easy access to public transport
• Has spaces for growing food or access to land to do so, without an expectation that we will be entirely food self sufficient
• Is dynamic and constantly reviews its vision and strategy
